"I’ve struggled with Body Dysmorphia (BDD) for most of my life. It’s an invisible battle, often triggered in places like changing rooms where the fear of judgment becomes overwhelming.

Psychologists often link this to 'inner child' work—healing the parts of us that learned to feel unsafe or ashamed early on. For a long time, I let that fear control me.

I’m posting this today as a form of exposure therapy. By speaking up, I’m proving to my brain that I don't need to hide. I’m doing this because:
It’s therapeutic to release the secret.

Men suffer from BDD too. Research shows that men are roughly as likely to suffer from BDD as women, but are far less likely to seek help due to stigma.

The Male Stat: Studies suggest that about 40% of people with BDD are men, yet it is often misdiagnosed or hidden because of societal pressure on men to be "stoic" or unconcerned with appearance.

Shame vs. Vulnerability: Dr. Brené Brown’s research shows that shame grows in silence. By speaking about it ("Name it to tame it"), you physically reduce the stress response associated with the secret.
